The LSAA 1996 Design Awards had four categories - small, medium and large structures as well as for special applications.

Project names are listed along with some images and credits. Further details are not available (updated Feb 2022)

Awards of Excellence were given to the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and Hong Kong Stadium Roof

Citation of Merit were given to News Ltd – Louvre Wall Rod Support, Adelaide Stock Exchange Geodesic Dome and the Revy Canopies

The following Special Application project was entered and received a Citation of Merit

1352       News Ltd – Louvre Wall Rod Support
The administration block to the complex required an elegant shade structure to the façade; a simple louvred wall supported on a vertical tensioned rod was the best architectural solution.

3172       Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre - Award of Excellence
This outstanding project caters for Conventions, Conferences and Trade Exhibitions ranging the full spectrum from global to local including indoor sports, concerts, balls and dinners.

3000       Porirua City Covered Walkway
This is an intriguing 400m long walkway canopy creating a new type of public space which was enhanced by a subtle landscape design and is responsive to contextual and cultural values. It upgrades the image of the central area adding to the dramatic skyline.

The following projects were received in the Medium Structures Category:

2122       Lakeside Joondalup Shopping Centre
The City of Joondalup is located 26km north of the City of Perth and is part of the North Western Corridor, a region which is consistently been one of Australia’s highest growth areas over the past 10 years. The Lakeside Joondalup Shopping Centre is the culmination of planning which began in 1976 to serve the needs of a rapidly expanding population that was moving further away from the State Capital.

To provide a striking feature for the new Entertainment / Retail Centre on Queens Wharf, Wellington. The three overlapping hypars provide a real nautical flavour to this new harbourside development.

The Investor Centre functions as a high exposure display area and office tenancy for the Australian Stock Exchange in the Plaza Foyer for the Santos Tower, one of Adelaide’s premier buildings.
